The Hint Horoz (Turkish Aseel)
The Hint Horoz originating in Turkey, are a widespread Oriental fighting cock race. Their name means cock (Horoz) from Hindustan (India). Its origins are to find in the Aseel of India. The weight of a hint is 3 to 4.5 kg, its appearance is highly aseel looking and not always uniform in shape and colour. In Turkey, the cockfight is a very old tradition, anywhere, small and big cockfight tournaments are organized. In large cities, such as Adana, Antalya, Ankara, Alanya, Izmit, Izmir and Istanbul, very big tournaments are held; fighting cock breeders from near and far meet there. In the tournaments in Turkey it is only fought with natural Spurs. The struggle with art spores or sharp knives is frowned upon because of religious reasons. Struggles with nature spores can last more than 3 hours. Because of this enormous endurance and fighting technique the Hint Horoz are very popular and successful. For the battle the hint is also crossed with other fighting cock races, usually with Shamo, Chu Shamo and Brazilians.
The hint is probably one of the widest spread oriental fighting cock race of the European region. Even in Cyprus, Greece and the Balkans, there are some top-quality Hint Horoz cocks. In Germany, numerous Hints can be found.
